Major Music Festivals for Summer 2007

The Coachella music festival was two weeks ago, but there's a lot more mega-festivals out there for all types of music fans. So, I did some research, and here's what's coming, just in case you happen to be in the right part of the country at the right time.

Bamboozle – 5/5-5/6; Meadowlands Sports Complex, East Rutherford, NJ; Tickets $35/day. My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, Weird Al, etc.

Bonnaroo – 6/14-6/17; Manchester, TN; Tickets - $184.50 - $214.50 (for 4 days). The Police, Tool, Flaming Lips, Wilco, Spoon, The Decemberists, White Stripes, etc

Sasquatch – 5/26 & 27; George, WA, $55-75 (single day); Beastie Boys, M.I.A., Bad Brains, etc. Hosted by Sarah Silverman

Virgin Festival – 8/4 & 5; Baltimore, MD; Tickets TBD; The Police, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, Velvet Revolver, Modest Mouse, Interpol, & Amy Winehouse. I'm assuming that this one is sponsored by the company, and isn't only for people who haven't had sex.

Lollapalooza – 8/3-5; Chicago, Il.; $195 (for 3 days) - bands TBD as of press time.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Jazz Festival – 4/27-29 & 5/4-6) - New Orleans, LA; Tickets - $34-$45 (per weekend); Ludacris, The Allman brothers, John Mayer, Harry Connick Jr., Steely Dan, Brad Paisley, Norah Jones, Pharoah Sanders Quartet, Arturo Sandoval, the James Carter Organ Trio and more!

Chicago Blues Festival - 6/7-10; Chicago, IL; This year legendary blues titans include Koko Taylor, Irma Thomas, Bobby Rush and will feature a rousing tribute to Howlin' Wolf, who would have been 97 this year.

Festival of Contemporary Music at Tanglewood – 7/29-8/3 - Lenox, MA; tickets start at $11; summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO)

Dunkin Donuts Newport Folk Fest and more info here; 8/3-5 - Newport, Rhode Island; Three-day passes start at $135 and reserved single day tickets are $75; Alison Krauss & her band Union Station, Emmylou Harris, the Allman Brothers Band, Amos Lee, the North Mississippi Allstars, Alejandro Escovado and many more.

Michigan Womyn's Music Festival -Walhalla, Michigan; 8/7-12; tickets - beginning at $395 for the entire week, $60 for a single day -- to benefit those of lower incomes and includes all concerts, meals, childcare and workshops; for musical lineup see here.

Austin City Limits – Austin, Texas; 9/14-16; tickets – TBD; 130 bands including: Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Police, Crowded House, Ryan Adams, Norah Jones, Wilco, Dave Matthews, etc.

Live Earth – All over the world (Antarctica, Brazil, Japan, Johannesburg, London, Shanghai, Sydney, and the US.; Tickets – TBD; over 100 bands such as Snoop Dog, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Keane, AFI, etc.

For you classical music fans, there's the Mendocino Music Festival - Mendocino, Ca.; 7/10 - 21, 2007; tickets - $20-$40 per day; Many classical & contemporary artists.

And for you country music fans, there's the Jamboree in the Hills, also known as the "Superbowl of Country Music," and it is a four-day-long festival of country music held annually in the rolling hills of Morristown, Ohio (about 1 1/2 hours west of Pittsburgh) in Belmont County. Tickets - $100-$180 (one day vs 4 day passes); bands included: Brad Paisley, Kelli Pickler, Bucky Covington, Toby Keith, The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band, The Charlie Daniels Band, .38 Special, and many more.

There are also a few major tours this year including:

Ozzfest – begins 7/12 in Seattle- Tickets ARE FREE (due to corporate sponsorship); bands include Lamb of God, Hatebreed, Lordi, etc

Warped Tour – begins 6/28 in San Diego; tickets - $25-$30; bands include Coheed and Cambria, Bad Religion, Paramore, etc.

Rock the Bells – 7/28 (New York City); 8/11 (San Bernadino, Ca.); 8/18 (San Francisco, Ca.); Tickets - $75-$80; bands include Rage Against the Machine, Wu Tang Clan, etc.
